Will you provide a free sample and/or consultation?

Of course…if it’s a writing sample you need, I will provide previously written samples of my work. I will only write original samples on spec for a fee.

If you would like a free editing consultation, please feel free to send me a 2-4 page (500-1,000 word) sample of your work and we can go from there. I will determine your needs, and customize rates to work for your project. If your document is very short, other arrangements will be made.

What are your rates?
In order to calculate the fairest estimate for your writing or editing needs, I use an industry standard word count of approximately 250 to 300 words per double-spaced page. My rates are competitive with the current market.

MINIMUM NOTE: A minimum of one hour ($30) will apply to most projects.

What are your hours?
My standard hours of contact are Monday through Friday, from 9 AM to 5 PM, Pacific Central Time. You may contact me after hours and weekends by appointment only. However, considering I am a freelancer, I reserve the right to work whenever I choose, including after hours.

Will you write my term paper?
Sorry…I will not write term papers. However…I will gladly edit your papers so that they are the best they can possibly be, clean and free of errors. After multiple years of tutoring students and editing their work, my experience has helped earn excellent grades for my students.

What will you edit?
For the most part, I am available to edit and/or proofread a wide variety of various materials, from articles and essays to resumes and letters, as well as fiction and nonfiction of various lengths, and much more. Ask me, I will probably edit it.

How will you edit?
I use “track changes” on your document, highlighting in one color and commenting in another color. This makes it easy for you to see what I have done. I can also print your work and edit it using editing marks.

Will you help me get published?
I can help you prepare your work for submission by editing, revising, critiquing, or consulting. I cannot guarantee that it will get published. Since I am not an agent, nor do I work as a liaison with particular agents or publishers, getting published is up to you.

Can you provide either American or UK grammar and punctuation?
Yes, I am familiar with both American and British grammar/spelling and punctuation.

Why should I hire you? How do you stand apart from all the others?
My passion for writing and editing comes through clearly in my work. I am a freelance writer myself, so I understand the importance of writing and of getting your work in the best possible shape. I love what I do. My goal is to make your writing appear its very best.

I especially love editing and proofreading, and have been helping others clean up their written work for many years.

Why do I need your editing or writing services for my business?
First impressions mean a great deal, on paper and the Internet. Do you want your piece to be taken seriously? If so, as a professional I will help you reach that goal.

How can I contact you?

Do I Really Need a Professional Editor?

Spell check has its advantages…fact or fiction? We all know it’s a fact. Fixing commonly misspelled words is a big help. But, on the grand scale of things spell check might not be that reliable. How many times have you picked up a book or article and found at least one mistake? And the author probably used spell check.

Even the best editors in the business are human. That’s where one more set of eyes comes in to your advantage. Most writers can use a dispassionate, sympathetic yet ruthless reader who can point out everything that needs attention. As a good editor I will offer advice on proper formatting and spacing, while systematically helping your piece flow better.

As your professional editor I will offer advice and suggestions and then it is up to you, the author, whether you want to make those changes. Depending upon your work, this may involve chapter breaks, character suggestions, or descriptions. You will receive all suggestions as just that…suggestions.

There are times when an author wants a re-edit. That is a possibility we would work out at the time of the contract.

Some authors might think editing is just re-reading your work, therefore not really necessary. As a published author, I know what reading and re-reading is like. Our brains know what we meant to say or what our intention was. Therefore, when you read your own work you tend to skip over the mistakes as if they don’t even exist.

As someone who doesn’t have a stake in the finished product, I can look at your work objectively and give you my honest opinion of what works and what doesn’t flow or what doesn’t make sense. My work will help you, a fellow author, put forth your best work.

In fact, sometimes hearing constructive criticism often brings new ideas. Stronger work will emerge from you, the author.

It’s hard to give over your work to a stranger and tell them to “let you know what’s wrong with this”. I know. I’ve been there.

That’s why you need to hire a reputable, professional editor. Understanding what you are going through yet wanting the best piece in the end, I will take you through the complete process.

Publishers not only want books that are ready for print and devoid of as many errors as possible, but will overlook great works that come with too many mistakes. Let me help you present your great work in your best form.
